So after sleeping well last night I woke up with a headache and runny nose and feeling congested...boo! I actually took the opportunity to work from home today to try and give myself a bit more rest. Not only am I feeling tired, my period is late (no chance I'm pregnant...lol!) but now I'm worried I'm going to be sick and get my period right on raceday...ugh!! Combine that with the fact that they are forecasting nothing but sun and 23 degrees I'm feeling a little defeatist about my chances of setting a new PR :(
Today was my last run with any speed before the race on Sunday. Maybe I should have skipped it with how I was feeling but I'm a little stubborn. The goal was to do 1.5miles warm-up, 2miles at 7:10 and, 1.5miles cool-down. The first 1.5 were good I was just trucking along at around 9:30 which is slowish but it was just a warm-up. Then I did my 2 miles fast...
I got it done...just barely, but as you can see it was a lot of downhill. As soon as I had to turn around and come back up I was struggling. Combine that with a pretty strong wind coming at me. It gave me no confidence of doing 6 miles at 7mins/miles in the heat! Not only that the last 1.5miles I barely had the energy to do 11 min/miles! I probably should have skipped this run, cause its totally messed with my head. My overall totals were as follows...
Yikes this is a bit of whiny post lol! Here's a bit of happier news :) I registered for the Good Life Fitness Half-Marathon in October...woohoo! Its one of my favorite races. Its the biggest race on the Island and an awesome atmosphere. Last year I PR'd at 1hr 39 and I have a secret hope (ok I guess not so secret!) of making 1:35 this year.
