Race re-cap - Cedar 12k

I love the Cedar Hill 12k race! It's a hilly run but there's just something about it that I like. This was my 4th year in a row running it which I figure is pretty good considering I have a 2.5 year old :) I ran it at 5.5months pregnant in 2013 finishing in 1hr 18mins...

And then when Hanna was 8 months old I did it in 1hr 7mins...

(waiting at the finish line...isnt she so cute!)

It is also the first race I ever got a medal in when I finished in 56 mins in 2015 coming in 3rd for my age group :)

So my goal for this year was sub-55mins...which I had calculated as 7:24mins/mile. Both my uncle and my running buddy came to run this one as well so its always fun to have people I know running with me.

My uncle and I being goofy at the start line :)

The race started off well but I know I was going a bit too fast (around 6:40mins/mile). A friend took this picture, its easy to smile when you are only 2km in!

About 3km in is when the hills start, its a rolling out and back course through farmland. I could see my running nemesis about 100 yards head but I just could not close the gap. I was struggling a little on the hills but was maintaining my pace.

Once I hit km 7 I started feeling good again...was making good time on the flat and down hill bits and pushing as hard as I could on the uphill. I got to km 11 and my app told me I was at 7:23min/mile so a second below my target. I was pleased because I knew I could make my goal then. The race finishes across a big school field so I rounded the corned and started to cross the field. I looked up at the time and saw 55:05?! I was so confused and disappointed. I crossed the line at 55:23 and my phone app said a pace of 7:24.

I was still trying to figure out how I could make my goal pace but be over my time. Well here's the kicker, turns out I did the math wrong... sub 55mins is a 7:22mins/mile pace. I trained for weeks with the wrong pace written down! Grrr...trust me thats a mistake I wont make again!! So I ran a decent race, but the whole miscalculation and not meeting my goal time kinda put a sour note on it all.

I placed 7th for my age group though and getting a ribbon is always fun :)
